Learn about rubber lining and its types

Rubber Lining is the same rubber covering that is referred to as rubber lining, rubber insulation, anti-wear insulation, anti-acid insulation, tank insulation or tank rubber work.
Rubber lining is a method of protecting surfaces against corrosion, in which the entire surface is covered by a layer of rubber that is usually 3 to 10 mm thick and in special cases up to 20 mm.

Introduction of rubber lining

It is used to protect metal surfaces against the corrosion of various chemicals or wear.
Also, in addition to metal surfaces, concrete surfaces are also protected by rubber lining in order to prevent the penetration of various chemicals or destruction by abrasive materials. This increases the lifespan of the tanks.
Of course, it is worth noting that rubber lining is not only used to protect the walls of tanks, but wherever chemical factors and abrasive factors cause the destruction of the metal surface, rubber lining is used, such as the walls of pipes, flanges, pump shells. , propellers of mines and walls of mills, reactors, ponds, chimneys, connections and…

Types of rubber linings

A: Rubber linings are divided into two categories based on the application method.

۱- Rubber lining by hot method:

raw rubber material is prepared in the form of sheets and installed in a tank or part.

After installation to achieve chemical resistance and desirable mechanical properties, vulcanization depends on the dimensions of the part, inside an autoclave with high pressure and temperature. And it is also done by steam or water or hot air in the working place of the piece.
The rubber formulation may be designed in such a way that the rubber coating is vulcanized in a longer period of time but at ambient temperature and pressure in the form of self-curing.

۲- Rubber lining by cold method:

the raw rubber material is vulcanized by the manufacturer and the baked sheet is installed on site, and in this method, there is no need for baking operation, and the tank can be used after execution.

B: Rubber linings are divided into two categories based on hardness.

۱- Soft rubber lining:

the tires whose hardness is in the shore A range are called soft rubber.

۲- Hard rubber lining:

The tires whose hardness is not within the range of shore A and are transferred to shore D are called hard rubber.
Hard rubbers have chemical resistance against acids and bases and other solvents, but they have a limitation that they cannot be used in places that are constantly under mechanical stress.

A: The material of the base polymer of rubber coatings is different depending on the working conditions.

In order to maintain the quality of rubber lining, the following must be observed:

۱- Not hitting it while hammering or welding.
۲- Not placing the tanks directly under the sunlight.
۳- It is necessary to avoid any kind of heat treatment such as welding near the tanks.

Tips to protect rubber lining:

۱- In order to prevent it from getting punctured, it is necessary to avoid entering the tanks with shoes.
۲- Avoid the contact of these liners with sharp objects.
۳- Checking every few months and monitoring the health of the rubber lining can prevent possible risks such as punctures.

Rubber lining

Rubber lining is an important factor for mining operations to resist the wear of equipment and materials.
significantly prevent equipment wear. The use of rubber lining is used to strengthen metal against weather phenomena.
The placement of metal against weather conditions and chemicals makes it vulnerable. Therefore, the industry uses it to prolong the life of metal parts.
Rubber lining is used in various industries such as chemical, oil and gas, food and pharmaceutical industries in the country.
